Laura Dent is a two-time graduate of the University of Arizona and holds a Masters degree in Public Administration and B.A. in Political Science, with minors in Latin American Studies and Spanish. Laura comes to Ward 1 from the labor movement, having worked as Field Director for the Pima Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO in Southern Arizona as well as the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 99 as an organizer and Union Representative. She currently serves on the executive commitee of the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona, and on the board of the YWCA in Tucson. She is immediate past-president of Las Adelitas Arizona, a group dedicated to empowering and engaging Latinas in the political process.

Vera was born in San Manuel, Arizona and grew up in the mining town of Mammoth. She spent two years at the University of Arizona and in 2007 received a liberal arts associate degree at Pima Community College. Previously she taught pre-school, kindergarten and was Assistant Director for St. John the Evangelist Catholic School. Vera has a beautiful seventeen-year-old daughter, Marysol. She is active in the community as a volunteer coach for girl’s volleyball, basketball, and as a math tutor and board member at St. John’s. She has lived in Ward 1’s Westside for the past 16 years, and currently serves on the board of the Tucson Mountain Little League.

Anakarina Rodriguez was born and raised in Nogales, AZ. She graduated from Pima Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Social Work and Liberal Arts and will continue her education at ASU's School of Social Work here in Tucson, AZ. After completing her internship at Ward 1 in spring of 2013, she recieved her certificate as a Community Health Advisor. Working with Mi Familia Vota, she has advocated for Immigrant justice throughout Southern Arizona, including her hometown of Ambos Nogales, registering Latinos to vote in addition to assisting residents in becoming Naturalized Citizens. She currently serves on the board for Las Adeltas Arizona.

Steve graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1998 and has lived in Tucson since 2002.  Steve has worked for a number of Arizona environmental, labor and civic participation organizations to secure a just, accessible and sustainable future for all of us.  Most recently, Steve was the Executive Director of the bi-partisan environmental advocacy organization, Arizona League of Conservation Voters, where he served from 2005-2013.  Steve works on environmental issues; including water, open space, and sustainability, arts & culture, bicycle and pedestrian issues & historic preservation.
