Dear Tucsonans,

Transportation 101

I want to thank the staff from TDOT and PAG/RTA, and my staff, for organizing such a great event last night.  More than 50 community members showed up to learn more about how transportation funding and planning works in our community, and how citizens can plug in to make their voices heard and make a difference.
PAG/RTA and TDOT staff, along with Transit Task Force member and former City Council Member Margot Garcia, really did a great job synthesizing a lot of complex info and putting it all together in an accessible format. Everybody learned something new, including me.
Keep your eye on PAGregion.com and RTAMobility.com in the coming days for a copy of last night's powerpoint presentation, and we will post it on our Ward 3 page soon too!

Labor Day

Whether you’re pounding the streets looking for work, retired after many years of work, or looking forward to a break from work over the coming holiday weekend, I wish you a Happy Labor Day. Don’t forget the Labor Day Picnic being held by the Pima Area Labor Federation on Monday (details below), and we hope the other highlights below are of interest.

Stay safe and enjoy,

Karin

…the 10th Annual National Preparedness Month is this September? Join the Tucson Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security in getting prepared. National Preparedness Month is the perfect time for you, your family and your coworkers to make emergency plans, build a 72-hour kit, and stay informed! Check out FEMA’s website, www.ready.gov to get started.

that HHW Collection is coming to your Neighborhood?  Last month, the Tucson/Pima County Household Hazardous Waste Program (HHW) made changes to provide residents with easier access to its services. HHW consists of waste that can harm people, animals, and contaminate groundwater if not properly disposed, such as car batteries, solvents, paint, cleaners, antifreeze, and other household products.  With the changes to the collection events, Second Saturday Outreach Collection events are now held in a different neighborhood each month. The previous collection site on Irvington is now closed.  First Saturday collections will be held monthly at the Eastside Service Center, 7575 E. Speedway Blvd., from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Home Pickup Program is also available through HHW.  Residents within Tucson City Limits who cannot reach one of our HHW Collection Sites may schedule a $25 home pickup. To schedule a pickup date or for more information, call ES customer service at (520) 791-3171.  For further inquiries, call customer service or visit http://www.tucsonaz.gov/hhw.
